YALE  UNIVERSITY

Yale University, founded in 1701 and ranked third among U.S. universities, is one of the seed institutions from which our modern-day universities grew. Yale was founded by a group of pastors to teach the Bible and train ministers and other church leaders. The founders were graduates of Harvard University, also started by Puritan Christians to teach the Bible.

The founding documents of Yale reflect why Yale was founded: “A sincere regard to and zeal for upholding and propagating the Christian Protestant religion, wherein youth should be instructed.” The stated goal of the university was, “Through the blessing of almighty God, for public employment, both in the church and civil state.”
