CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY

Cambridge University, founded in 1209 and ranked among the top 10 universities in the world, is one of the seed universities from which our modern-day university system grew. Like other seed universities (Oxford, Harvard, and Yale, for example), Cambridge was started by Christians. Today Cambridge has 31 colleges founded by Cambridge but operating independently.

World-changers like Isaac Newton (founder of the Scientific Revolution), Reverend John Harvard (founder of Harvard University), and Francis Bacon (creator of the scientific method) graduated from Cambridge. In the 1600s, a group of devout Christian graduates from Cambridge created the first school in the United States to teach boys and girls. Thomas Clarkson, a Christian abolitionist, wrote an influential essay at Cambridge that would lead to Britain outlawing slavery through the leadership of William Wilberforce, another Cambridge academic.
